Food Lion at MLK
Well, look at the Food Lion on MLK Blvd. It opened to such fanfare in February 2011. Now, corporate has decided to close this store. How sad.
This morning while on our walk, someone had thrown a Christmas tree on the sidewalk on 36th Street. It is almost February. Where has this tree been?
On Sunday, saw the typical Red Neck Valentine gift, a Bear and a Beer case... 'Nuff said.

Dang! It's Clean!

Yes, it's CLEAN!

Red Neck Valentine
OMG! Rachel's Room is CLEAN!
It's Almost February!

Happy Monday!

David's crabs is up in smoke

Firefighters cut open the fence
**Breaking News**
Tonight's special is Smoked Crabs!!

5 AM and we awoke to firetrucks, way too close. Next door, David's Crabs is on fire! Malcomb put a really good lock on the back gate. The firefighters couldn't break it so they took a chain saw and SAWED the fence!
Malcomb showed up a little later. Said the fire started in the convenience store (next door). He had his phone on silent so he didn't hear when the police called him. He was woken up by the police coming to his door. By the time he arrived, the firefighters had already sawed open the fence to get in the back door.

FOG
At 7 AM, the fog was pretty dense. By 9, it was just a memory. In the afternoon, it was a balmy 78 degrees! To think, I used to hate winter. To paraphrase Jimmy Buffet, if you don't like winter, maybe to change your attitude, you need a change of latitude!

Why park here?
On Friday evenings, you cannot park on our side of the street (even # of W. 35). But this SUV belongs to a lawyer from Richmond Hill who has an office on our street. He has left this broken down Lexus here for months. He gets ticket after ticket. Maybe he lives in some gated community that won't let him leave a broken down vehicle there. But  it's OK to leave it here? Oh well, as long as he pays the tickets, I guess our city is collecting revenue, so it's all good?
WHAT?
I went up town and walked around yesterday while waiting for the Patriots game at 3 PM. (Which they won in true nail-biting fashion so they are going to the Super Bowl!) While on Broughton Street I saw this minivan with eyelashes.... Some older cars had  eyebrow moldings but never eyelash moldings...
While on River Street, I saw the French Research vessel Tara, that is in port for the week. Pretty cool looking. Also, I was talking to this artist. Typical of me, I can't remember his name. He has some really neat stuff. He picks up driftwood and scrap wood all over. He got some wood out of one of the warehouses on River Street that is being rehabbed. Some of that wood is 200 years old!

Hiyah looks cold
Thursday morning it was a brisk 38 degrees at 8 AM. Don't you feel bad for Hiyah just hanging out on the corner with no friends? At least he was dressed for the weather in his coveralls. When I was at Starbucks, a (likely SCAD) college girl was a little too scantily clad for the weather. A short skirt and sandals, really? Sandals? And no jacket? Didn't your mother teach you better?
Last night the 'hood was hopping. Even with the camera now installed on Montgomery and 35th Streets, they were out there. Some guys were zooming up and down Montgomery Street over and over again. At 9:10 PM, watched what could only be a drug deal in front of my house in full view of the camera. Guy walks up to the car, walks away counting his money... Then at 11 PM, while walking the dogs, saw 2 "ladies of the evening" (that is putting it nicely). One jumped in a silver mustang with an OLD man. By the time we were walking back to the house, about 5 minutes, she was jumping back out of the car! Dang! Talk about Wham Bam Thank You 'Mam...

First thing this morning I talked  to Malcomb, the owner of David's Crabs (next door to me). Asked how he like the camera directly on the corner in front of his store. What? No, he didn't notice. He thought it odd though that one of his female employees said she didn't need him to wait outside with her last night while waiting for her ride to pick her up. She told him the camera would watch for her... Nice to know he said!
I somehow missed the drug dealer getting busted a couple of nights ago. Malcomb said he saw a half dozen police cars across the street and a guy got busted with a bunch of drugs. NICE!!

I'm sure it rides smooth...

Hiyah is doing alright
This morning as Rachel is going out the door to school, she says, that red light on the dash was flashing again last night. I think it is the oil light. Dang!  I told her to go to school and I'd get some oil and put it in while she was in class. It took the better part of a quart and a half of oil. It is amazing that thing is still running....
Take a look at that Cadillac. I don't think this is what Mr. Cadillac had in mind when he designed a luxury car. A guy driving down my street had a car like this and he could barely turn the wheels... Safe? I think not.
Oh, look, Hiyah is still doing alright. He is sitting out front smoking and drinking bright and early in the morning...
I was excited to see that the city had so quickly replaced those water meter covers. That was so cool.
Look! already fixed!

Missing covers
What the hell? Walking Chip this morning, he nearly fell into this. Someone stole the covers to the water meters! I guess it falls to me to call the city to report this. I'm also going to ask that they finally replace the tree in front of my house. It has been more than a year since the car thief drove down the sidewalk while being pursued by 5-0. He tore up 2 small trees, hit 2 cars and narrowly missed the telephone pole and my Subaru (thank God). Days later, the city came out and chopped down the little Crepe Myrtle tree in front of my house that was scraped to hell. But, they have never replaced it.

In charge

Keeping 'em honest

Look who's sitting in the big chair, the big dog! Chip looks happy and in control of the situation.
Late Friday afternoon, the police had blocked off 35th at Jefferson. They were stopping a few "people" including a drug dealer on a bike and a streetwalker. They let both go, so the dealer must not have had any drugs left on him... The ho', well who knows.

What?
Friday night, saw all this crap left out on Barnard Street. Somebody must have been evicted...
Pretty quiet this weekend. On Saturday night, I watched as a drug dealer did his thing behind David's Crabs. I saw him look at the corner and up at the camera, and then he told his client to "come here," which is behind David's Crabs and in full view of my window. These drug dealers have got to go.
The 'hood is quiet today. They must all be at the MLK parade.. Yeah, right.

What is he doing?
Nice parking job
Nice parking job! Totally out of the street.
Do you see the man in the striped shirt beside Hiyah's place? What do you think he is doing? Yes, he is urinating against Dirty South Records building. Well, that's making a statement ...

Tuesday January 10 2012

Well, things are much quieter in the 'hood. Why you may ask? Since "the man" installed the camera in front of David's Crabs (on my side of 35th Street!), this place isn't so cool... This morning, there was a ton of trash blowing around the area. I don't know where it all came from. Ben (from across the street) was out there with his tenant Hiyah picking up the trash! WOW!  Bill was on the second floor porch of a neighbor's house in the 200 block.  (He is going to be repairing her porch.) Bill watched as one of the drug dealers that usually hangs out at Dirty South (and was one of the 2 guys shooting his pistol in the air on New Year's Eve) sold drugs to some strung out dude on a bicycle. Guess he didn't want to be seen on Candid Camera so he moved his business down a block.

So far this year, (and it is only 11 days in) I have applied for 20+ jobs. There are a few more that I applied to on-line that I didn't write down. Considering that I've been looking for work for 2 years, this is about average for me. Saying we are out of a recession is not holding water for me. Rachel is working on an Economics project and she asked me if we are  in a recession or not. I told her the government says we are out of it, but I don't believe it.
I was looking on Savannah Help Wanted.com and saw job postings for Customer Service, cashier, and copy center help wanted at Staples. The jobs were listed as being posted on 1/10/12. The ad further stated to apply in person at the Victory Drive and Abercorn locations. I went to Victory Drive and was told to apply on-line. I told her about the ad. She said they are not looking for help at this time, it must be an old ad. What the hell? Yeah, we are out of the recession alright. These websites seem to recycle old ads just to fill up pages and make it look like there are job openings out there. I think it is a government conspiracy.

What the hell?

What a PRICK!
This is what a prick looks like. This morning, I parked on Broughton Street. I left a good 2 feet in front of me and a dark sedan. There was no one behind me for at least 3 or 4 parking spaces. Then, when I came back out of Starbucks, the dark sedan had left and a small pickup was in front of me. He left just over a foot or so between my car and his/her truck. But, this A-HOLE pulled up behind me and literally left me at most,  2 inches. As you can seem there is NO ONE behind him for at least 3 parking spaces.  I have his number now. AIH 0701- GA plate. Just wait, I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog, too......
I will be watching this A-Hole

Sunday January 8 2012

What the hell is he wearing?

What is on his head?
Savannah has some very strange men. Yesterday on Broughton Street, I saw this guy wearing blankets. It was almost 75 degrees outside... This morning on Rte 17, I saw this. I don't know what the hell he is thinking. Is it Dolly Parton with a tan? Can't say. But it did make you look.
I guess the Police put a camera on a pole at 35th and Montgomery in front of David's Crabs.. Damn, is it quiet! Even the jerk in the muscle car that usually flies up and down Montgomery Street late in the evenings, has taken to MLK instead. Nice.

Friday January 6 2012

Rachel is in school today. I called to make sure she was there. Let them deal with her and the consequences of skipping school.
Finally, it is warming up out there. Sun is shining, and the malingerers have been out and about. Though, first thing in the morning is was still a bit nippy and with the  police car sitting across from the BP station, I'm guessing it put a cramp in the lifestyles of the hoodkins.
I brought some cookies to the police station to thank them for their help with Rachel. The cop at the desk said everyone was talking about the girl in the trunk. Wow! Famous or infamous, I'm not sure which...But it gave them all something to talk about.

Thursday January 5 2012

A good friend of Rachel's
Well, New Year's is starting off with a Bang. At 10 minutes after midnight on NYDay, I had to pick up Rachel from an underage drinking party. Last night, she decided not to come home at all. She took off with this girl (Kelsey), and went to supposedly go work on an economics assignment at a third girl's house on Wednesday early evening. Come to find out, Rachel and Kelsey did not go to school at ALL on Wednesday. Kelsey told her parents she was spending last night at my house. Rachel NEVER came home last night at all. She came in nonchalantly at 7:30AM. Meanwhile, I had called the police to report Rachel not coming home last night. When she came home, I had to call the police so they could check on her well-being. I said I wanted the keys to the car and Rachel refused. Then she stated she needed the keys to get Kelsey out of the car. WTF? Then she said, Kelsey is in the TRUNK! I went out and opened up the trunk and the police officers were shocked. Out came Kelsey and after finding her older sister's ID in Kelsey's purse, she was off to JAIL. She is 17 so she got to go to the big house. Rachel went to Juvenile Court with me. FUN FUN FUN. 2012 is going to be FUN. Yeah, right.

THAT'S ICE IN THE BIRDBATH!

Only the hardcore are out!
Dang! it is frigging COLD! Even at 1 in the afternoon, the birdbath still has ice in it. First thing in the morning, only the hardcore are out.
The good thing about the cold weather is less scumbags hanging out. Chip is loving these cold temps. He was out in the backyard for about 2 hours either laying around or chasing birds. Louise, on the other hand, was wearing a jacket and showed her racing roots. She made our afternoon walk in record time. No time for hanging around sniffing everything. Nope.  She had business to do and then it was off to the races, I mean, home...and laying on the couch for hours.

Monday January 2 2012

Well, it is a new year. It didn't start off too well for me or Rachel. At 12:10 AM on New Years Day, I got a call from Rachel. The party she was at was busted. The police said I had to come pick her up. What a pain in the ass. After I picked her up, she took her car and went to go get Steven from the party he was. At some point after speaking to the cops and getting home at ??? hour in the morning, she lost her wallet. Her driver's license, debit card, $40 cash and (this pisses me off) parking pass worth $50 are now MIA. I went to the police station on the frigging ISLANDS this AM, and of course they are still not open. Have to wait until tomorrow AM to see if the police picked up her wallet. Let's hope this is not a sign of things to come for 2012.
