What is happening here

"Your imagination is your preview of life's coming attractions."
-- Albert Einstein, Physicist
I'm not sure my imagination can figure what they are building over there.
All I can say is that Code Enforcement was over there on Monday and now something is being built.

Things are pretty ugly here in Savannah. People are being shot left and right, home invasions, drive by shootings. It is really out of control. The other day, a man and baby momma had a fight with a gun. She shot him then he grabbed their 2 year old baby and used it as a shield and somehow the baby got shot. What a couple of sickos!
There was a drive by shooting on the street in the Victorian district last night. This is a woman who works at the YMCA and she was standing with a few people in front of her apartment. This is bad. Over the weekend, a girl was shot and killed in an apartment complex. No one seems to have any idea why. She was a college student. Speculation is that she was maybe being carjacked, but her VW Beetle wasn't taken. What the hell? A 17 year old boy was shot and killed in front of his house. No leads on either of these cases that happened on the Southside.

On a positive note, I did start working today at Liberty Tax. It was a little busy but I'm sure it will pick up even more when I go back to work on Friday!

I'm not thinking the cards look that much alike.

Ruth Chris Steakhouse

My Petit Steak

Bill's Big Steak
This is Restaurant Week. We went to Ruth Chris Steakhouse. A nice meal was offered for $30 per person. I got a petit steak with blue cheese crumbles and Bill paid an extra $10 and got a hefty piece of meat. The beef is USDA Prime, very nice. The steak was so tender. The plates are 500 degrees! This keeps the steak warm the whole time you are eating. I scooped out my garlic mashed potatoes, put them on the plate, then added some butter and watched the butter steam and dance across the plate. Everything was great, the bread, the appetizer (that was an extra- we got seafood stuffed mushrooms- awesome!), salad, steaks, and a dessert- chocolate cheesecake with oreo crumb crust served with a cream and berries. Yummy! We had picked RCS to go to for restaurant week because about a year and a half ago, I had bought Bill a gift card for (I think) $75. Since they were offering $30 meals, we figured this would be a good time to go. When the bill came, it was $114! $30 for me, $40 for Bill, appetizer for $14, blue cheese baked on the steak $4 each, and 2 glasses of wine for Bill. I drank water.
Bill reaches into his pocket to take out the gift card, when....
the gift card he had picked up off the desk was for the Gentleman's Warehouse. Uh oh.
Moral of the story. Check the gift card twice before you leave the house.

New haircut

Now more fake hair color
All natural hair color now. Got all the colored hair cut off.

Bill and I are going to Ruth Chris Steakhouse for dinner tonight. We will be using his $75 gift card I gave him for his birthday 1 1/2years ago! This is restaurant week so we can get dinner for $30 each. Nice!

Non-violence message is Lost in Savannah

Found out that the incident on Saturday at Water's and Eisenhower was an old guy that had a "medical incident" and crashed into the parking lot. At least it wasn't anything really serious, except for the old dude.
Kristel called me and said that she was riding by Armstrong University about 5pm last night and saw a vehicle flipped over and cops all around. Turns out, 2 young black males were in the stolen truck and being chased up on Interstate 95 when they made a U-turn and headed into Savannah. They broadsided a Savannah police car that wasn't even involved in the chase. Then the truck flipped over a couple of times landing on the roof. The 2 A-holes then scrambled out of the truck and ran. They were quickly pursued by several police officers from different jurisdictions. They were found and apprehended. I went on the Chatham County 24 hour booking site and deduced the two "suspects." Below is the driver...

Then, today was the MLK day parade. You remember, the guy who believed in non-violence. Well, 2 bitches got into it at Forsyth Park after the MLK parade ended. One pulled the "weave" out of the other one's hair so she pulled a gun and shot a half dozen times all over the place. Hundreds of people were enjoying the beautiful day at the park when this happened. Panic ensued as people were screaming and running. MLK would be proud of his people in Savannah. And in a remarkable note, the only charges incurred, were Disorderly Conduct and Reckless Conduct, Misdemeanors! and each has been given a bond of only $1300. Wow. Something is seriously wrong here.

What is happening here

Lots of action here
Guess there was another shooting on W. 39th street last night. Saw it on the news but don't catch the  details. This afternoon while at tax update class, firetrucks and police cars came rushing by. When I left about 15 minutes later, I saw police tape being put up (at the intersection of Waters and Eisenhower). So, I'll have to wait to find out what happened here.

Drastic change in weather

"Difficulties in life are intended to make us better not bitter."
-- Dan Reeves, Football Coach
Rachel had a good description of the weather yesterday. It started out nice and warm. Sun shining and temperature was almost 80 degrees (In January, Nice), then at 2 pm, the wind picked up, it started pouring out and then the temperature dropped 20 degrees. Rachel said the weather was "bipolar." Yup, I'd have to agree.

The quote above makes me think. Hmm. Well, if difficulties are supposed to make us better, then I must be a- f'kng-mazing.

"All blame is a waste of time. No matter how much fault you find with another, and regardless of how much you blame him, it will not change you. The only thing blame does is to keep the focus off you when you are looking for external reasons to explain your unhappiness or frustration. You may succeed in making another feel guilty about something by blaming him, but you won't succeed in changing whatever it is about you that is making you unhappy."

Still studying taxes

"The man who chases two rabbits catches neither."
-- Confucius, philosopher
"These are not dark days; these are great days - the greatest days our country has ever lived."
-- Winston Churchill
I don't know about that second quote. I guess he was an optimist.  If  he was alive today, I wonder what Winston Churchill would think about the state of the world today.
Finished up most of my tax school stuff. Tomorrow I'll take a tax class at Savannah Tech. I'll have to volunteer some time to help the indigent and poor do their taxes for free. Don't want to do too much of that. Rather work at Liberty and get paid. Oh yeah.

Studying

"To make no mistakes is not in the power of man; but from their errors and mistakes, the wise and the good learn wisdom for the future."
-- Plutarch, Historian
Ah, back to school time. Went to Liberty Tax School last week to learn to do taxes. Not that I didn't know how, but if I want to get paid to do them, have to go to class. On Monday I'll finish up the test questions and then get a tax preparer ID # and just like that, I'll be able to do taxes and get paid!
Savannah Tech classes started back last week. Already I'm a half week behind in my 2 online classes. I needed to purchase online access material for those classes and the CD's with the access codes are being shipped to me. How bizarre. Could have just given me the codes in an e-mail after I paid for them and I would have been working away now. But it was almost half the price to buy the access/CD's from the publisher and rent the books from Barnes&Noble rather than buy the books with the access/CD's from the school bookstore. Every dollar counts when you are paying for it!

We are having strangely warm weather. Broke records with temp of 81 yesterday and expecting the same today. My lemon and lime trees have buds on them but with no bees out there, I don't expect anything to happen.

I looked at Rachel's bumper and it was a little worse than I had originally thought. It was hit so hard it cut through the rubber bumper and ripped into the metal!

Little worse than first thought

Rachel's Car AKA The Rat

Hit again
Yup! Rachel was sitting in the parking lot at CVS when a woman backed into her.. Nice. She rammed her a second time thinking she had hit the sidewalk. WTF? She really did not SEE the big Green Rat?

New Year New Stuff

Hiyah is still working
Who Knew? There he is, still working for his beer money!

I've been watching this drama with a palm tree for several days. There was a big hole in the ground left after it was yanked out. Yesterday the hole was filled in. Turns out, the palm tree roots had tangled into the sewer lines so it had to go.

I put in a request almost a year ago to the city to replace the tree in front of our house that was destroyed by the car thief that drove a pickup truck down the sidewalk. Finally, the day is here! We got a new maple tree.

The house on 36th street that is being repaired after burning (like 3 or 4 years ago) has 2 dumpsters on the lot. Some A-hole has thrown at least 25 tires beside the dumpster. Now there is no way this is just somebody that had a few tires in their yard. You know this jerk that dumped the tires was likely charging people $5 a tire to dispose of them then tossed them out here.

Last week, some white guy said that 2 black males broke into his house, tied him up and KILLED his pretty, young wife. Really? We haven't heard this story before? Last night, the police arrested him for her murder.
Today in my tax class, 2 black girls sitting next to me were talking. One said "I don't do white girls." Hmmm. I stared at her. Me, being a white girl- though I have NO INTEREST in "doing her." I'm thinking this girl is an asshole. What if I had said I don't do black girls/guys in front of her and her friend? The more I see people, the more I like my dogs.

New Years Day 2013

The Pier at Tybee

The Pavilion

The crazies getting ready for the run

There they go

It was wild and crazy at Tybee Island Beach and Pavilion. The annual Polar Bear Plunge was held at noon time. People were dressed up in all kinds of silliness. One person was in a polar bear costume with a plunger on his head! There was about a dozen dressed up as Tybee Bees. Lots of alcohol I'm sure was involved in some of the choices including a dude dressed at Wonder Woman with lots of chest hair...

Rachel had an interesting New Year's morning. While in NYC with her "friends", they went upstairs to Steven's dorm room while Rachel was outside having a cigarette. Dorms are LOCKED. She had left her cell phone and wallet in a cab. She could not call to have Steven open the door for her. It was about 20 degrees outside... She ended up getting lost in NYC. She got on the phone with her mother and a NYC policeman. The cop got her a cab and helped her get her phone and wallet and get back. Meanwhile, Danielle- RACHEL'S RIDE HOME- had a fight with Steven. He locked her out of the dorm room and Danielle proceeded to start driving back to Savannah WITHOUT Rachel. Bitch. Danielle did come back after she said a policeman stopped her. Not sure how much of that part is true but it will be an intersting ride home for Rachel..Steven is staying in NYC, and Jill is leaving today on a plane. Rachel will have a helluva story about her trip to NYC!

Found a great quote:
Next time you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them you will be a mile a way and have their shoes... Anonymous
