Wednesday March 30 2011

Hiyah at 8 AM drinking his Old Milwaukee. Hurry, the rain is coming!

Oh, no! It is raining like hell out here. Let's get in the cage!

Man, the rain is coming down again today! We have thunder and lightning, too. The scumbags seem to have made themselves scarce after this.

Tuesday March 28 2011 Trash

What the hell is this crap? Someone ate dinner and then threw the Styrofoam container and fork beside the  driveway between David's Crabs and my house. This is typical behavior. Where did these people grow up? They eat and drop the containers and trash where ever they happen to be. I don't know how these people can be re-trained. Perhaps if they are caught and forced to pick up trash in the neighborhoods where they litter would be a good start.

Sunday March 27 2011

I had a bit of difficulty sleeping last night. I didn't get pictures, but at 1 AM I watched a drug deal in the driveway of David's Crabs. 3 Black men were very engaged in their elicit activity.
I had finally fallen asleep when I was awoken at 2 AM by gunshots. They were very close. 3 rapid shots were followed by 3 more rapid shots. I looked all around but couldn't see anyone, or any cars. At 6:30 AM when Bill walked the dogs, he found empty bullet casings in the alley of 35th at Jefferson Street. He spoke to the homeowner- James Rasta- who said he heard the shots but didn't realize they were outside his house.

It was mostly quiet out on the street during the day. As it was Sunday and  no alcohol sales there isn't a lot of reason to hang out across the street. In the mid-afternoon, we had a violent rainstorm come through. It dropped 3/4" of rain in 15 minutes and we had pea-sized hail seen here. It continued raining with thunder and lightning for most of the rest of the afternoon and by 5 PM we had 2 inches of rain.

Water was coming over the sidewalk.

See the guys trying to stay dry in the cage!

Blight on 36th Street

Newport box on left, chip bag center, booze bag on right. All this is under a beautiful bush on W 36th.

Dead branches removed from empty lot and tossed on this lot.

Debris removed from empty lot and tossed in yard of burnt house on 36th.

These barriers have been here since the fire, what is that, 2 1/2 YEARS ago?

What is up with this blight? The Property Maintenance Inspector for this area, La Donna Clark (nice lady, intelligent and conscientious about her job), cited the owners of the empty lot in the 200 West 36th street block for tall grass and trash. Well, they cut down the grass but threw all the debris onto the lot of the big burnt Queen Anne house lot. That is wrong. Also, when the builder was building the 2 houses on West 36th to replace the ones that were razed, he left debris on the empty lot. Some of that is what has now been tossed onto this house. 2 wrongs do not make a right. And, what the heck is up with these barriers in the alley? Isn't anyone responsible for these? The fire was at least 2 years ago. Can't SOMEONE pick these up?

Friday March 25 2011

Let's start off the day right. Here is Hiyah at 8 AM on Friday. MMM, good. Beer for breakfast.

Enough of Hiyah for a while, let's look at some of the other blight. It seems that people like to walk down the street eating and drinking. Well, that's OK. Except.... When SOME people walk down the street eating, they feel it is perfectly acceptable to drop whatever trash they have anywhere. There are plenty of trash cans, but that doesn't seem to help.

A little empty bottle on Jefferson Street.

A large empty Hurricane Bottle on 35th.

Styrofoam cup on 36th.

Disgusting on 36th St.

Paint cans left in the 300 block alley of West 35th Street.

Thursday March 24 2011

Here we are on Thursday morning watching the city workers grind down the stump that used to be a large live oak. The hole that was left behind for months after the tree was chopped down became a bench and place to toss empty bottles, cans, plates, trash. Now it is a nice clean area. We'll see how long that lasts.

Look real close at this picture in between the railings and you will see a man (sleeping, passed out?) on the porch at 2:30 in the afternoon. This is a vacant Fannie Mae Owned house in the 200 block of West 35th Street. The scumbags are spreading out from the 300 block of West 35th Street.

Tuesday and Wednesday March 22 and 23 2011

Here we are on 3/22/11. Nothing going on here. Just sitting on the porch, again. Nice parking job. Get real close so you don't have to walk too far... The night time picture is a bit more interesting. A little hard to see, but that is a small child over by the cage while Mom is inside the rooming house, doing God knows what...

Here we hang AGAIN on 3/23/11 at 8 in the morning.. No where to go but hang here. How boring.
At 10:15 AM it's time for beer! See the brown paper bag next to the left leg of the man in the white shirt.
The big question is "Where's Hiyah?" Haven't seen him all morning. Must be "working." (Work consists of pouring a soapy disinfectant into the dumpster after the trash hauler empties it 6 days a week and using a leaf blower to remove debris from the area around the restaurant and storefronts.)

Monday March 21 2011

It's Monday 9:00 AM and the liquor store is OPEN!  See the can in the paper bag on the porch.  Old Milwaukee, the Breakfast of Champions!

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Sunday March 20 2011

LOOK. It's Sunday. 7:45 AM and No one is there. This is what I'm talking about. No Sunday alcohol sales = No reason to hang here.

March 19 2011

Here we are at 7:45 AM. Amazing, Hiyah and his friend dressed alike AND drinking beer out of matching brown paper bags!

Oh, what's this? A little trouble in Paradise? Don't worry. No one got arrested. Just a lot of yelling.

See this article titled "What Not to Do?" Well, this was in the newspaper. Note, it says, NO bottles or cans and the only area where you are allowed to walk with an open container (CUPS under 16 ounces) is North of Jones Street to the River, East of Boundary Street and MLK and West of East Broad Street. West 35th/Montgomery Street is NOT in this area. But I guess these rules just apply to white people. It is apparent that every day these people drink and yet no seems to get arrested.  Something is wrong here.

Friday March 18 2011

Here we are on Friday at noon time. Hiyah and his OLD lady. Man, she looks miffed. She wants to go somewhere but he won't get off the porch. Too bad. There she goes, back into the house and there goes Hiyah, swilling his Old Milwaukee. Again, no bag required.

Now what is going on here? A woman locked her keys in her car.
Good thing the felon and company are there on the scene. Save that call to AAA or a locksmith.  Hiyah to the rescue with a metal coat hanger! Nice job, fellas.

Wednesday March 16 2011

Here we are at 9:00 in the morning. One of the crowd said "Where's Hiyah?" Doesn't matter, here they hang.

While walking the dogs at 8:45AM there was a man behind the house at 310 West 36th Street smoking (crack?). He was hiding next to the back stairs.
I'm sure the owner doesn't know he was there.

Tuesday March 15 2011

Ah, here we are again. 8:30 in the morning. See the man in red and yellow hat. He is drinking Old Milwaukee without it even being in a bag. How bold!

Here we are at Noon time on a Tuesday. Nine able-bodied black men. 4 on the porch, three on the sidewalk, one standing on Montgomery Street and one sitting on the edge of the "cage" on Montgomery Street. Why are these people not at work? They seem perfectly able to walk around and drink and hang here. There must be some work they can do.

Monday March 14 2011

Ah, it's Monday. None of the people on that porch live there. But look at them drink!
And isn't it just precious to bring along a baby!
This is  at 1PM on Monday March 14.

The only one drinking on Sunday morning was Hiyah. I guess he managed to stash one away. He was having his Old Milwaukee at 8:30 AM on a Sunday. That was pretty much it since the Liquor store and the BP station weren't selling alcohol on Sunday. This morning is was still somewhat dark but Hiyah had his Old Milwaukee can and several friends were on the porch with him at 7 AM.

March 12 2011

Ah, here we are at 8 AM on Saturday morning. The beginning of a new day of drinking and drugs. The silver car (I think it is a Buick) pulled up and parked across the street with 2 black males in the front and a female (in the tan coat) in the back seat. The green VW with the black female with the black jacket pulled up on my side of the street. The female in the VW got into the Buick for about 3 minutes. Then both women got into the VW and left.
The men in the Buick stayed for a few more minutes, looked like the passenger handed something to Hiyah, and then left.

The drinking continues with open containers, metal cans glinting in the morning sun.

March 10 2011

Here we are, not even 8 o'clock in the morning. Hiyah is on the front steps as usual.
At 2 PM, 2 black males pulled across the street in a small silver car. They got out of the car and urinated beside it! How sick. Then they went into Dirty South Records.
At 3:30, 2 "ladies" appeared to be waiting at 36th and Barnard. Well, the bus stop is at 35th and Barnard, so I don't think they were waiting for the BUS... At 4:30 when I drove by again, they were still there. This is where I've seen several prostitutes in the past. Also, this intersection is where the transvestite prostitute was shot and killed about a year ago.

March 9 2011

The picture on the left is Tuesday March 8. Again, these people don't live here. Just hanging out for hours.

The picture on the right is Wednesday morning, March 9. You can't see his face but the man sitting on the left side of the porch is an old drunk. He is drinking a little of bottle of something alcoholic. Not even in a paper bag, just right out in the open. The red sign to the right of the window says "No Loitering." None of those people live there. Just Loitering.

Monday, March 7 2011

Well, you can't make this stuff up! Here is a scumbag, hanging out at 35th and Montgomery Street. Hmmm, sounds familiar. I'm sure the police will find out he had warrants on his ass. And his mommy will say he was looking for work or recently found God. I wish I could have been here to see this but my class started at 6PM when all this went down.
Oh well, there will be other days, I'm sure.

This is the intersection of 35th and Montgomery, just a couple of hours before the big arrest.

Friday March 3

OK it's FRIDAY! The crowd was there earlier but hard to photograph as it wasn't light enough. Anyways, these people in the white van delivered a couch and then brought an old couch outdoors. Take a look at the Woman in the pink stretch pants with the Blue and Yellow hair!! Well, Hiyah and the crew enjoyed sitting outside on the scummy looking couch for a while until the landlord showed up and then the couch was moved.   Later on, it was "Crack and Crabs Night" at the big intersection. My, was it busy. David's Crabs sells lots of Crabs on Friday night and the dealers on the corner are Hustling!! It is a sight to see.
Maybe after daylight savings hits, I'll get better pictures.

Thursday, March 3, 2011

March 3 2011

Here we are on Thursday. Who the hell are those people? None of them live there. Why do you think they hang out there for hours and hours? And where do they go to the bathroom? Hmmmm.

Wednesday, March 2, 2011

Tuesday March 1 2011

I didn't get a good picture on Monday. At 7 AM after the liquor store opened- there was 11 people hanging out here. It was still a bit dark outside and my photo didn't come out well.
So, here we are on Tuesday morning. Hiyah is sitting on the far right with his Old Milwaukee at his side. Don't know who the others are. They don't live there! But as long as Hiyah is there, the scumbags come from near and far, like moths to a flame.
