111 Brady Street

Ho's and pimp conduct business here?

Trash
It was an interesting night/morning. Last night while walking Chip and Louise, a young man and two young women followed us in to the alley. Next thing, I see them walking up the fire escape of this condemned house. I told they had to leave as they were not the owners and the house was condemned. He said "they were just conducting some business." REALLY, he said that. I told him again, CONDEMNED and then I stood there. They took the hint and left.

In the morning, Bill saw one of the girls in the street and the guy was giving her instructions.... "Get out in the street girl so they can see you..." Hmmm.. Looks like a duck, sounds like a duck....Later I went out and they were huddled up together on the second floor back deck of the house (216 W 35th.). That was it for me. I called the police and reported them. I don't want that kind in my neighborhood.
I also told the police someone opened up the back door of the condemned house at 111 Brady Street. Maybe they be conducting business there, too....

Later, I went into the alley behind our house and took another picture of the trash that people have been throwing back there. I called the city and told them this is now the 3rd time we have asked to have this debris picked up....

pit bull and ....
Damn, it is frigging cold out there. It was 29 degrees this morning when I was walking Chip. The girls weren't anywhere to be seen. Now it has warmed up a bit- at least it is above freezing. A friend stopped by to see Hiyah and company. He brought his dog. Now it's the "Pit Bull and Parolees" show across the street!
Still no word on Rachel's I-Phone. The school police better get that damn phone back. If not, I'm taking the whole frigging family of the thief to court.

Sunday February 12 2012

Damn! that guy is way up there!
Man, there isn't enough money in the world to pay me to go up on one of those "cherry pickers."
At 8 AM, it was still only 27 degrees. No bums, no drug dealers, no ho's on the streets...
Later it warmed up to mid 40's. Still too cold for the girls, though...
Too cold!
What a great find on this headboard. Rachel was wanting a new headboard as she has had the "cheetah" covered headboard for about 5 years. ( I did cover it up with some pink and green fleece, but she wanted a wood headboard.) I'm going to sand it and paint it off white to match her bureau.
I posted a picture of an artist from River Street on my blog a while ago. He does a lot of African art. Well, last Sunday I saw some stuff in the Telfair Museum he just has to see. An artist named Robert Claiborne Morris has some really thought-provoking stuff. So, I printed off an article about RCM and a couple of pics of his art. (I wish I remembered the name of the artist uptown, but I don't.) I brought it  to the artist on River Street. I told him RCM is going to be in Savannah tomorrow at the museum talking about his art. So this would be a great opportunity for him. To thank me for taking his art seriously, he gave me this piece with the lone cannon. COOL!
Nice headboard and it's heavy

So cold, they have their hands in their own pockets!

Art!

Pretty bird

I'm the BIRD

I am the Pretty Bird

Here is the vain cardinal. He spent about an hour in Bill's truck mirror this morning. What can he be thinking? I believe this is a young male. He is a little more red than is showing up in the pictures as these were taken at 7:15 AM. One person theorized the bird is thinking he has to fight off a rival cardinal. I think he is just obsessed with himself. He sat on the back of the toolbox looking in the glass for a few minutes. Bill wants to shoot him for messing up the mirrors. I think putting bags on the mirrors for a few days will break the obsessive habit. Who knows?
Yesterday afternoon as I was walking the dogs, I saw a neighbor. He is a boarder who lives in the 200 block of 35th. After the obligatory "hey, how ya doing" I said, it's been looking like rain all day, but we haven't gotten a drop. He replied with "just because something looks like a horse, doesn't mean it's a horse". (Huh?) OK, the horse rained about an hour later....?

Mirror on Bill's truck
There is a male cardinal in our back yard this is obsessed with himself. I swear, he is a teenage girl who has been  reincarnated as a bird. This cardinal jumps on the mirrors on Bill's truck to look at himself. He does this over and over and over again. It is maddening. He flaps his wings and puts marks on the mirrors, stands on the top and looks down at himself. He can do this for what seems like an hour. I put brown plastic bags on the mirrors to see if it would help. The next day, he was back. We will have to do this everyday to make him go away, I think.

Tomorrow, David's Crabs is supposed to open up. I imagine traffic will be a nightmare. I have to leave to go to class just after noontime. I'll be lucky if I can find a parking spot when I get home...

Wednesday February 8 2012

Not much happening. Rachel's phone still hasn't been "found". Police are still dragging their feet about "interviewing the suspect." Why? I am SO pissed. $315 shot to hell. The kid got to use the damn phone for a month and a couple of days. The thief deserves to be BEAT and her parents, too.

I heard through the grapevine that Peyton Manning will be going to the Washington Redskins. That's nice. He doesn't deserve $128 MILLION bucks. That is so wrong.
Hell, none of them deserve that kind of money. They are just football players.

Still haven't found a job. I'm applying for jobs every day. No one calls. I have had one interview this year and 3 interviews in all of 2011! This just sucks. I am so broke. I have no retirement money left. My income tax refund is going for a car payment and for the dogs flea and heartworm meds. Nice.

super BAD super bowl

We are all excited before the game!

First quarter = snooze
That was the worst showing EVER for Brady. I am not a happy fan. Before the game, we were all excited. I was wearing my Brady #12 shirt. We were happy. Then, the first quarter of the game happened and I was NOT happy. When the game ended and the Giants had won, I was angry. Why brings us (the fans) all this way if you can't close the deal? I would have been happier if they had lost in the first round...

Calling all PATRIOTS FANS!
Think about this. Tom Brady- not married to a supermodel- wins ,3 count them 3 Super Bowls. Tom Brady married to supermodel- loses 2 Super Bowls. She is bad luck. She has to GO. Let's start a petition- Brady and Giselle have to get divorced. NOW before the next season starts.

Saturday February 4 2012

OK, we tracked Rachel's Iphone to 1401 Johnny Mercer, Islands Tree apartments. The girl that lives there sits behind Rachel in French class. The phone was missing after French class. The girl categorically denies having the phone. Lying Bitch.
Police won't do anything. It happened on campus BUT the phone was taken off campus. Do you think if I saw a kid smoking a pile of weed on campus but then he drove away, I could only report it to the School Police? Then, since the phone was off campus, why can't the police respond?
Campus police officer is out until at least Monday as a grandparent died. WTF? If I go back to the apartment, words will be said. (and video will be taken by my IPhone.) I am PISSED at this lying bitch. I spend $315 for that phone. This is Theft by Taking- Georgia Law 16-8-2. See, my paralegal classes are paying off. If campus officer doesn't get the phone back on Monday, I'm taking the little bitch to court. I'll press criminal and civil charges. Give up the phone Bitch!

Friday Feb 3 2012

Here I am. Still unemployed. Applied on line to McDonalds today. Really? Yeah, I'm that DESPERATE. All these employers have you fill out some kind of questionnaire about personality. Some are longer than others but these questions are always on them:

I prefer a job that is :
interesting  or helping people (interesting and helping people, yeah yeah at McDonalds...)

If we contact supervisors (or teachers) how often to you stretch rules to get things done? (Oh, I won't just stretch 'em, I'll flat out bust a few...)

While working, you overhear 2 co-workers talking about another employee working too slow. What do you do?
nothing, tell supervisor, tell co-worker to hurry, tell 2 co-workers to tell the worker to hurry. (tell 2 co-workers to go to hell, as it is only MCDONALDS not like a hospital where someone might DIE if they have to wait for 15 seconds? not available)

If you don't get this job, how easy will it be for you to get another job?
(do I need to sound that HOPELESS? Hell, I'm applying to MCDONALDS!!!)

35 of these assinine questions. What BS for a minimum WAGE job.

Now for the BIG news of the day. Rachel's I-phone 4 was STOLEN from school yesterday. Nice. Made it just over a month before it was gone. We tracked it and just her luck, it was in an apartment complex rather than a house. It could be any one of 8 units... Life just sucks. $315 shot to hell and I still have the credit card payments to make on it. The damn Islands Police would NOT come to the complex even though I could show them on my phone that we tracked her phone to Island Tree. Said we had to go through the school police. Nice. Great Customer Service. To Serve and Protect. My ASS. To stand around and BS with the dispatcher. Yeah.

Groundhog Day 2012

Well, the pesky Puxatawny Phil did not see his shadow so that means spring is right around the corner. Whoopee! It is 77 degrees today. I think I can handle it! Also, Georgia's Beauregard the groundhog did not see his shadow in Lilburn GA so spring is supposed to be just around the corner here, too. Don't tell Bill. He hates to cut the grass!

Really?

Smashing trees
Walking down Broughton Street yesterday morning, I looked up at the planter boxes on this building. One held dead flowers. The other, a bouquet of bottles... Hmm. Savannah, a drinking town with a drinking problem.
Took a walk around Bonaventure Cemetery.  A lot of fuss has been made about a new owner that bought land across the street. He is tearing down trees and putting up I believe, a mausoleum. People are angry he is tearing down all these trees. I thought they usually cut them down but these guys are just breaking them with a backhoe. Lazy?

Food Lion at MLK
Well, look at the Food Lion on MLK Blvd. It opened to such fanfare in February 2011. Now, corporate has decided to close this store. How sad.
This morning while on our walk, someone had thrown a Christmas tree on the sidewalk on 36th Street. It is almost February. Where has this tree been?
On Sunday, saw the typical Red Neck Valentine gift, a Bear and a Beer case... 'Nuff said.

Dang! It's Clean!

Yes, it's CLEAN!

Red Neck Valentine
OMG! Rachel's Room is CLEAN!
It's Almost February!

Happy Monday!

David's crabs is up in smoke

Firefighters cut open the fence
**Breaking News**
Tonight's special is Smoked Crabs!!

5 AM and we awoke to firetrucks, way too close. Next door, David's Crabs is on fire! Malcomb put a really good lock on the back gate. The firefighters couldn't break it so they took a chain saw and SAWED the fence!
Malcomb showed up a little later. Said the fire started in the convenience store (next door). He had his phone on silent so he didn't hear when the police called him. He was woken up by the police coming to his door. By the time he arrived, the firefighters had already sawed open the fence to get in the back door.

FOG
At 7 AM, the fog was pretty dense. By 9, it was just a memory. In the afternoon, it was a balmy 78 degrees! To think, I used to hate winter. To paraphrase Jimmy Buffet, if you don't like winter, maybe to change your attitude, you need a change of latitude!

Monday January 23 2012

Why park here?
On Friday evenings, you cannot park on our side of the street (even # of W. 35). But this SUV belongs to a lawyer from Richmond Hill who has an office on our street. He has left this broken down Lexus here for months. He gets ticket after ticket. Maybe he lives in some gated community that won't let him leave a broken down vehicle there. But  it's OK to leave it here? Oh well, as long as he pays the tickets, I guess our city is collecting revenue, so it's all good?
WHAT?
I went up town and walked around yesterday while waiting for the Patriots game at 3 PM. (Which they won in true nail-biting fashion so they are going to the Super Bowl!) While on Broughton Street I saw this minivan with eyelashes.... Some older cars had  eyebrow moldings but never eyelash moldings...
While on River Street, I saw the French Research vessel Tara, that is in port for the week. Pretty cool looking. Also, I was talking to this artist. Typical of me, I can't remember his name. He has some really neat stuff. He picks up driftwood and scrap wood all over. He got some wood out of one of the warehouses on River Street that is being rehabbed. Some of that wood is 200 years old!

Hiyah looks cold
Thursday morning it was a brisk 38 degrees at 8 AM. Don't you feel bad for Hiyah just hanging out on the corner with no friends? At least he was dressed for the weather in his coveralls. When I was at Starbucks, a (likely SCAD) college girl was a little too scantily clad for the weather. A short skirt and sandals, really? Sandals? And no jacket? Didn't your mother teach you better?
Last night the 'hood was hopping. Even with the camera now installed on Montgomery and 35th Streets, they were out there. Some guys were zooming up and down Montgomery Street over and over again. At 9:10 PM, watched what could only be a drug deal in front of my house in full view of the camera. Guy walks up to the car, walks away counting his money... Then at 11 PM, while walking the dogs, saw 2 "ladies of the evening" (that is putting it nicely). One jumped in a silver mustang with an OLD man. By the time we were walking back to the house, about 5 minutes, she was jumping back out of the car! Dang! Talk about Wham Bam Thank You 'Mam...

First thing this morning I talked  to Malcomb, the owner of David's Crabs (next door to me). Asked how he like the camera directly on the corner in front of his store. What? No, he didn't notice. He thought it odd though that one of his female employees said she didn't need him to wait outside with her last night while waiting for her ride to pick her up. She told him the camera would watch for her... Nice to know he said!
I somehow missed the drug dealer getting busted a couple of nights ago. Malcomb said he saw a half dozen police cars across the street and a guy got busted with a bunch of drugs. NICE!!

Wednesday January 18 2012

I'm sure it rides smooth...

Hiyah is doing alright
This morning as Rachel is going out the door to school, she says, that red light on the dash was flashing again last night. I think it is the oil light. Dang!  I told her to go to school and I'd get some oil and put it in while she was in class. It took the better part of a quart and a half of oil. It is amazing that thing is still running....
Take a look at that Cadillac. I don't think this is what Mr. Cadillac had in mind when he designed a luxury car. A guy driving down my street had a car like this and he could barely turn the wheels... Safe? I think not.
Oh, look, Hiyah is still doing alright. He is sitting out front smoking and drinking bright and early in the morning...
I was excited to see that the city had so quickly replaced those water meter covers. That was so cool.
Look! already fixed!

Tuesday January 17 2012

Missing covers
What the hell? Walking Chip this morning, he nearly fell into this. Someone stole the covers to the water meters! I guess it falls to me to call the city to report this. I'm also going to ask that they finally replace the tree in front of my house. It has been more than a year since the car thief drove down the sidewalk while being pursued by 5-0. He tore up 2 small trees, hit 2 cars and narrowly missed the telephone pole and my Subaru (thank God). Days later, the city came out and chopped down the little Crepe Myrtle tree in front of my house that was scraped to hell. But, they have never replaced it.

Monday January 16 2012

In charge

Keeping 'em honest

Look who's sitting in the big chair, the big dog! Chip looks happy and in control of the situation.
Late Friday afternoon, the police had blocked off 35th at Jefferson. They were stopping a few "people" including a drug dealer on a bike and a streetwalker. They let both go, so the dealer must not have had any drugs left on him... The ho', well who knows.

What?
Friday night, saw all this crap left out on Barnard Street. Somebody must have been evicted...
Pretty quiet this weekend. On Saturday night, I watched as a drug dealer did his thing behind David's Crabs. I saw him look at the corner and up at the camera, and then he told his client to "come here," which is behind David's Crabs and in full view of my window. These drug dealers have got to go.
The 'hood is quiet today. They must all be at the MLK parade.. Yeah, right.

What is he doing?
Nice parking job
Nice parking job! Totally out of the street.
Do you see the man in the striped shirt beside Hiyah's place? What do you think he is doing? Yes, he is urinating against Dirty South Records building. Well, that's making a statement ...

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Tuesday January 10 2012

Well, things are much quieter in the 'hood. Why you may ask? Since "the man" installed the camera in front of David's Crabs (on my side of 35th Street!), this place isn't so cool... This morning, there was a ton of trash blowing around the area. I don't know where it all came from. Ben (from across the street) was out there with his tenant Hiyah picking up the trash! WOW!  Bill was on the second floor porch of a neighbor's house in the 200 block.  (He is going to be repairing her porch.) Bill watched as one of the drug dealers that usually hangs out at Dirty South (and was one of the 2 guys shooting his pistol in the air on New Year's Eve) sold drugs to some strung out dude on a bicycle. Guess he didn't want to be seen on Candid Camera so he moved his business down a block.

So far this year, (and it is only 11 days in) I have applied for 20+ jobs. There are a few more that I applied to on-line that I didn't write down. Considering that I've been looking for work for 2 years, this is about average for me. Saying we are out of a recession is not holding water for me. Rachel is working on an Economics project and she asked me if we are  in a recession or not. I told her the government says we are out of it, but I don't believe it.
I was looking on Savannah Help Wanted.com and saw job postings for Customer Service, cashier, and copy center help wanted at Staples. The jobs were listed as being posted on 1/10/12. The ad further stated to apply in person at the Victory Drive and Abercorn locations. I went to Victory Drive and was told to apply on-line. I told her about the ad. She said they are not looking for help at this time, it must be an old ad. What the hell? Yeah, we are out of the recession alright. These websites seem to recycle old ads just to fill up pages and make it look like there are job openings out there. I think it is a government conspiracy.

What the hell?

What a PRICK!
This is what a prick looks like. This morning, I parked on Broughton Street. I left a good 2 feet in front of me and a dark sedan. There was no one behind me for at least 3 or 4 parking spaces. Then, when I came back out of Starbucks, the dark sedan had left and a small pickup was in front of me. He left just over a foot or so between my car and his/her truck. But, this A-HOLE pulled up behind me and literally left me at most,  2 inches. As you can seem there is NO ONE behind him for at least 3 parking spaces.  I have his number now. AIH 0701- GA plate. Just wait, I'll get you my pretty, and your little dog, too......
I will be watching this A-Hole

Sunday January 8 2012

What the hell is he wearing?

What is on his head?
Savannah has some very strange men. Yesterday on Broughton Street, I saw this guy wearing blankets. It was almost 75 degrees outside... This morning on Rte 17, I saw this. I don't know what the hell he is thinking. Is it Dolly Parton with a tan? Can't say. But it did make you look.
I guess the Police put a camera on a pole at 35th and Montgomery in front of David's Crabs.. Damn, is it quiet! Even the jerk in the muscle car that usually flies up and down Montgomery Street late in the evenings, has taken to MLK instead. Nice.

Friday January 6 2012

Rachel is in school today. I called to make sure she was there. Let them deal with her and the consequences of skipping school.
Finally, it is warming up out there. Sun is shining, and the malingerers have been out and about. Though, first thing in the morning is was still a bit nippy and with the  police car sitting across from the BP station, I'm guessing it put a cramp in the lifestyles of the hoodkins.
I brought some cookies to the police station to thank them for their help with Rachel. The cop at the desk said everyone was talking about the girl in the trunk. Wow! Famous or infamous, I'm not sure which...But it gave them all something to talk about.

Thursday January 5 2012

A good friend of Rachel's
Well, New Year's is starting off with a Bang. At 10 minutes after midnight on NYDay, I had to pick up Rachel from an underage drinking party. Last night, she decided not to come home at all. She took off with this girl (Kelsey), and went to supposedly go work on an economics assignment at a third girl's house on Wednesday early evening. Come to find out, Rachel and Kelsey did not go to school at ALL on Wednesday. Kelsey told her parents she was spending last night at my house. Rachel NEVER came home last night at all. She came in nonchalantly at 7:30AM. Meanwhile, I had called the police to report Rachel not coming home last night. When she came home, I had to call the police so they could check on her well-being. I said I wanted the keys to the car and Rachel refused. Then she stated she needed the keys to get Kelsey out of the car. WTF? Then she said, Kelsey is in the TRUNK! I went out and opened up the trunk and the police officers were shocked. Out came Kelsey and after finding her older sister's ID in Kelsey's purse, she was off to JAIL. She is 17 so she got to go to the big house. Rachel went to Juvenile Court with me. FUN FUN FUN. 2012 is going to be FUN. Yeah, right.

THAT'S ICE IN THE BIRDBATH!

Only the hardcore are out!
Dang! it is frigging COLD! Even at 1 in the afternoon, the birdbath still has ice in it. First thing in the morning, only the hardcore are out.
The good thing about the cold weather is less scumbags hanging out. Chip is loving these cold temps. He was out in the backyard for about 2 hours either laying around or chasing birds. Louise, on the other hand, was wearing a jacket and showed her racing roots. She made our afternoon walk in record time. No time for hanging around sniffing everything. Nope.  She had business to do and then it was off to the races, I mean, home...and laying on the couch for hours.

Monday January 2 2012

Well, it is a new year. It didn't start off too well for me or Rachel. At 12:10 AM on New Years Day, I got a call from Rachel. The party she was at was busted. The police said I had to come pick her up. What a pain in the ass. After I picked her up, she took her car and went to go get Steven from the party he was. At some point after speaking to the cops and getting home at ??? hour in the morning, she lost her wallet. Her driver's license, debit card, $40 cash and (this pisses me off) parking pass worth $50 are now MIA. I went to the police station on the frigging ISLANDS this AM, and of course they are still not open. Have to wait until tomorrow AM to see if the police picked up her wallet. Let's hope this is not a sign of things to come for 2012.
