Quiet in the hood

Things have been quiet here in our section of the hood. Only heard one gunshot on Thursday night and nothing last night. Maybe Good Friday had the hoodkins taking some time off. But there was another murder on Burroughs and 40th Street.(about a mile from my house) That makes 3 murders and several shootings at the same intersection in less than 6 months. According to my "source", the police have a good idea who did this. But does that make me feel any better? NO.

Happy Wednesday

Bill picked up a nice shiny grill

What?

Bill picked up a nice stainless steel grill from Home depot! Isn't it shiny?

What is it with the cars with these eyelashes? Does anyone else see these things?

Read a column in the Sunday paper that says a lot about today's education. It was written by Geveryl Robinson (a columnist and college professor).
"...when students enroll in college there are certain things I ...expect them to know. ..students enrolled in English classes without any knowledge of how to write an essay.  ...they don't even know that an essay is supposed to have paragraphs. Text language, profanity, improper or nonexistent punctuation and other issues...they seem astounded when they receive a grade that is not an A".
She has now decided to leave the classroom. As she states, "no matter how many administrators or legislators tell people every student should go to college, this is not true." Just because they go to college, doesn't mean they will find a job. Students are pushed through classes partly because professors are afraid to fail too many students. These students will graduate many thousands of dollars in student debt due to corporate GREED.

For students that don't excel in the classroom, are not interested in English, history, social studies, there are many trades that need people. Auto mechanic and HVAC are just a couple of careers that will pay well and don't need a four year degree and BIG student loans.
It is something to think about.

New Filming Opportunity

When I drove to Starbucks this a.m. I saw a bunch of film and lighting trucks parked on Henry Street at the former Sears building. The city rents out this parking lot and building  to film crews. According to the city's film office web site, "General crew call for low-budget feature film: “Pathos” will shoot April/May in and around Savannah, GA."
Too bad I didn't check the city website earlier this week. They were filming "Royal Pains" at the Crab Shack on Thursday. Since Rachel was fired from there, it would have been a hoot if she was an extra during filming at the Shack!

Hiyah in camo

Yes, he is still here. I know people were wondering, "where is Hiyah"? He is hard to see 'cause he is in camouflage...Yeah, it makes a lot of sense to wear camo in the city...

Royal Pains

Royal Pains filming
Royal Pains, the TV series, is filming an episode here in Savannah this week. Too bad it is not the nicest weather. It was only 44 degrees at 8 this morning. I may try to go back later in the day when it warms up some.

It didn't warm up until after 1. By the time I got back up town, the filming was done. Oh well.

Hanging out

This looks like a gang hanging out across the street from Dirty South Records. Every day, young men hang out on these corners. I can't believe the police couldn't keep DSR closed. Everyone knows they deal drugs there. I'm getting real tired of the thugs and drugs in this town.

Over the weekend, the guy the police believe was responsible for the murder of a couple just a few blocks from here (happened Labor Day weekend), was murdered. There are no suspects in his death. I'd say that's justice, but there are too many unanswered questions. Why did he have to kill them? Did they see something? Was it a case of mistaken identity? The families are devastated by the loss of two young people in their prime of life. We should all be concerned enough to want the police to find the answers, but we will probably never know now. How sad.

Ticketing

Ticket for parking the wrong way

No ticket, parked wrong way AND in front of a hydrant

Ticket writing is hit or miss in this section of Savannah. This van was parked in front of my house, facing the wrong way. I've never seen anyone get ticketed for this before on our street. Then about an hour later, this car pulls up to the hydrant, facing the wrong way and stays for a while. No ticket. Course if a policeman was standing here on a Friday night, he could make some serious cash for the city writing tickets. They double park, park in front of the hydrant, park on the sidewalk. I've seen it all...

Ahhh. Spring break

It's Spring!
Look, it's budding!
Last week was pretty brutal. I was fighting off that godawful stomach virus and the amount of homework I had was killer. I had one mid-term, one test and two quizzes. Then there was the HOMEWORK in the Document (WORD) class. OMG. I put in at least 20 hours on that one class last week. I got a 98 on my Finance test, a 90 on one quiz, not sure about the other quiz or the mid-term, those grades didn't post.
I also started up a Facebook account named ChipandLouise.Alexander... Both dogs are not impressed.
This morning I noticed our little tree is budding! Soon it will start providing some much needed shade on this street. That of course, will be after the pollen drops, then the leaves will drop later... Did I really ask the city to plant this tree? I'm having second thoughts...

Feel a little better

They say misery loves company. Found out the Queen of England has the same frigging stomach virus I have. Nice to know that I'm in the company of Royals!

I have so much homework to do before Tuesday night. I need to be sitting at my computer for 8 hours a day... Plus on Wednesday, I have to take 2 mid-terms. Yuck.

It is so cold out today. The poor birds, the birdbath was frozen solid this morning!. It is still on the cold side out there, though the sun is shining and it is getting close to 50 now that it is almost noontime. The weather channel said another winter storm is brewing up north. I'll take a few days of cold weather rather than months and months of godawful SNOW.

Sunday

Finally I'm making some progress. I've been sick for days and it has been tough. Today the headache is more a low grade menace rather than the full fledged feeling of a migraine (that nothing worked on.)
Well, Well, Well. WE had an interesting Saturday evening. While most people were settling down for the evening, getting ready for bed, or in my case, needing to lay down and sleep due the RAGING headache I had, Rachel called and said that her momma was arrested.
Suddenly this is my problem? What the hell? The two of them called around and got Alexander Bonding to agree to bond her. The place is on Ogeechee Road, near the McDonalds. We've seen the place for years. Hard to miss. A yellow building painted with black lines to look like bars to a cell... Nice. At any rate, I was there just before midnight. Used half of Rachel's tax return for the bail.

I guess there is a lesson in here for Rachel. Can you imagine, having to take your kid's tax refund money to bail your ass out of jail? I think Rachel wants a better life for herself...
Meanwhile, think about this opinion  placed in a Northern California newspaper. Think about that fact that this person probably votes and may even have reproduced. This country used to be the greatest in the world. I fear for the future...
